Born into a pagan world of gods and goddesses they blazed a new trail to follow the living God. With the words of the Apostles still ringing in their ears these champions passed the fullness of the faith on to the next generation.

You’ll sit at the feet of the apostles, celebrate the Eucharist in hiding, and tremble at the suffering they endured for Jesus Christ.

Retrace their steps through Israel, Turkey, France and Italy. All this in a fast-paced, entertaining biography, travel documentary, Bible study, apologetics course and Church history study rolled into one remarkable adventure!

1st in the Telly Awards!!

Telly29th.jpgIn the words of Joe Reynolds of Skyline Production:

I just received word that Apostolic Fathers has placed 1st in the Telly Awards out of 14,000 entries. The documentary won in the category of Religion/Spirituality.

I am very proud of this accomplishment and of the team that made it possible -- starting with Mark Brumley and Tony Ryan of Ignatius Press. They have funded, supported and marketed this project from the beginning.

Second, I would like to thank Joe Reynolds and his crew at Skyline Productions for their excellent work in the field and in the studio. They are real pro's and made this DVD a reality.

Lastly, I want to thank my ever faithful wife and partner who is constantly at my side and is the best editor and post-production maverick I know. She has an amazing knack for this kind of thing.

We love this Footprints of God project and the results it is bearing in the Catholic world. We hope to begin Abraham: Father of Faith & Works soon.

Of all the religious education videos that I have come across as head of the Religious Studies Department at a Catholic high school, the Footprints of God are the best.  Steve Ray visits all the right places, asks all the right questions, and, most importantly, presents the right Scripture verses.  Every time I show these videos to my students, they learn something they didn’t know before.  I highly recommend them for catechesis.

PaulDVD.jpgZenit Interview with Steve Ray
www.Zenit.org

It is always surprising to read through Zenit Catholic News and find my own interview. The Zenit.org news interviewed me a few weeks ago and wonder of wonders -- there it was today!

The interview was given in honor of Pope Benedict's proclamation that this was the Year of St. Paul in honor of the 2000th anniversary of his birth.

Since we filmed St. Paul's life story in six countries, they interviewed me about Paul and what I have learned about him as I traveled thousands of miles in his footsteps. You can read "In St. Paul's Footprints" here.

Canticle sm.jpgAn Interview with Janet Ray:
Watching God Build His Church: Our Family Journey of Faith

Interviewed by Heidi Hess Saxton

My wife Janet gave an interview a while back about our family and travels. She told the Canticle about our family, our conversion, and our travels as a family to the Holy Land. She also provided pictures.

You can imagine how surprised we were when this  magazine landed in our mailbox. We highly recommend Johnette Benkovic and her ministry -- especially this lively magazine Canticle: The Voice of Women of Grace.

My wife Janet thanks Heidi for visiting with us and writing such a nice article. Click on the magazine cover to see the whole article.

As part of my degree requirements for my MA in Biblical Theology I am teaching a Bible course in my parish, Santa Rita de Casia, down here in Puerto Rico. For the study of Exodus and the Gospels I used your DVD's Moses: signs, sacraments and salvation, and Jesus: the Word became Flesh, with Spanish subtitles, in four sessions each. The average attendance is 80 parishioners. They are all delighted at the scenery, the contents and the love for the Church that you transmit.
Congratulations and thank you for your service to the People of God. I pray the opportunity arises to have the series dubbed in Spanish: Latinamerica desperately needs resources like this since, I'm sure your know, fundamentalists have targeted us for proselytizing and are being very successful. May the Lord continue to bless you.

First, I would like to thank you and your team for the marvellous series of videos, "The Footprints of God". My parish priest and I have shown each one of the DVDs available to date to many of our parishioners (an evening event).  Everyone says how wonderful they are in every aspect, teaching, understanding church history, quality; everything.
Second, we are now eagerly awaiting the next one "David/Solomon: Expanding the Kingdom".  Are you in a position to tell us when we, in the UK, may expect to be able to purchase it? God bless you and your team for producing such a wonderful resource! (I told him the new DVD will be out by the end of March 2006 -- in a few days!)

Thank you so much for coming down to St. Mary's to give your presentation. I really thought it was cool to see someone famous in person. I learned so much from your movie and I want to watch the other ones now. I think your movies are very educational and for once not boring!

Thank you for visiting St. Mary's of Littleton Colorado yesterday. It was fun and I learned a lot. Your video, Peter the Keeper of the Keys was the best and most interesting Catholic movie I've ever seen. Now you might think I haven't seen many Catholic movies, but being at St.Mary's for the last 9 years, I have seen my fair share. Once again thanks. I hope you can come back sometime because I would like to hear all the stories you have about your movies and trips to historical places. Also if it isn't to much to ask I would like you to show us your newest movie about David and Solomon as soon as you can get it to us.

“Now that I have purchased the DVD’s on “The Greatest Figures in Salvation History” I can say that I have all of your tapes. They have enhanced my spirituality and have made me a better presenter in the RCIA class. I find that the audio tapes make the Bible come alive for me as they teach me about the geography and the customs of the Holy Land. When we watched the Footprints of God series in our Bible study class, the entire class stayed an extra 15 minutes just to share about how the tape helped them to understand the Bible. I will be eagerly looking for your next edition. Thanks for all you do.

"Steve Ray has done something extraordinary--something no one else has done. He has produced a series of video documentaries that make the Bible come alive, that bristle with energy, sparkle with wit, shine with reverence--and that are genuinely faith-building. So many documentaries that are made about the Bible and the Holy Land today seem bent on tearing the faith down: Steve Ray's videos are the antidote to such poison.
"The series takes you to exactly the places you want to go: to Mt. Sinai and the Red Sea for the story of Moses, to Nazareth and Bethlehem for the story of Mary, to Calvary and the Empty Tomb for the story of Jesus, to the Sea of Galilee and Rome for the story of Peter, and through the trails of Paul's missionary journeys. By all means, let Steve Ray be your guide to these exciting and humbling stories of salvation."

I just had to write to tell you how much I appreciate your excellent videos Peter, Keeper of the Keys and Mary, Mother of God. Absolutely superb! The photographic effects that combine scenery with art work are just beautiful. The wealth of information so thorough! Your enthusiasm for your work and for the Faith add such a great personal touch.

Thank you for making such a great contribution to the apologetics materials available. I am so glad you’re on of us.  I teach 9th grade religion at our local Catholic High School and your films will always be a mainstay of my curriculum. God bless you and your family and all of your wonderful work! Thank you again.

Dear Stephen and Janet:  Thank you for the DVD though I must confess I fast-forwarded to the section on St Clement and St Ignatius. Auguri! The filming is very impressive and shows the basilica off very well. I am only grateful that you didn't arrive here with the yellow digger! With best wishes and congrats. on the DVD,

Thanks for including me in your mailing about your documentaries.  I am really excited about this new work about the Early Church Fathers.  I’ve tried reading the books, and I it’s hard for me to weed through all of it to get to the portions that address issues like—their understanding of the Eucharist and the form of the Mass, etc.  I’m too impatient, I guess, because of limited time, to indulge in the reading process.  But a DVD, I can sit down and soak in the meat of the passages you have gleaned.

Thank you, Steve, for this awesome work you are doing.  God has gifted you with the ability to take the complicated and scholarly Truth, make it exciting, and get it into the simple language of the “people,” who long to understand and know these Truths but are neither scholarly nor astute at reading complicated text.

—And, yes, you can quote me on that above statement— (if anyone is interested)—even though I’m an unknown voice in the Catholic Apologetic world—(except by marriage to the esteemed Dr. Williams).   : )

Love & prayers, Pam Williams

Steve, this is the Catholic Defender coming to you from Iraq! I do want to say that the items are excellent and I highly recommend them to anyone for intertainment, for study, for teaching. I use them for our bible studies and for the RCIA. I also loan them out for indivudual use. They have been well recieved by eveyone I've shared them with. The booklets provide great insite and study for anyone wanting to know more of the bible.

I just wanted to say thank you for producing the Footprints of God series. I just watched the Apostolic Fathers. It was wonderful. I did not know much about them, and you sparked my interest. Now, I will seek out more information about them and their writings.
Your whole series has really opened up my heart and eyes to the beauty of God and His Church. It has inspired me to deepen my relationship with God and be a better Catholic person. I enjoy reading, watching and absorbing everything I can about God and the faith. It is such a wonderful feeling.
The DVDs Mary and Paul, from your series, are my favorite. I never thought about them from the point of view you presented -- what it would have been like to be alive at that time. You make their lives real, instead of the pristine images of the Christmas cards or paintings. I look forward to the next one. Thanks again.

I've met you several times, most recently at the Catholic Family Conference in Wichita. I spoke with you then about the pilgrimage my seminary class was planning to the Holy Land. I've been here for 3 weeks now. I will be here in the Holy Land until February 12th and will then go to Rome for 10 days.
This is such an amazing experience. I just wanted to let you know that I brought your DVD's along with me (I own them all) and am watching them while I'm here to learn more about the places. I've watched your videos many times before, but it's great to watch them here in the Holy Land and know exactly where you were at and I know that I can now go there too.

Thanks for bringing the Holy Land to people who can't come here and thanks for adding to my own enjoyment of my pilgrimage. If you'd like to see what we're up to, I'm tracking my daily reflections and pictures on my blog and the xanga address below. Thanks again and Merry Christmas.

Dear Steve and Janet:

I am so excited! I decide to "go out into the deep" as our beloved Pope John Paul II asked of us and try to form a study group based on your Footprints of God series. The fist session was tonight. Four of us had our bibles, the Catechism, your study guide, and took the
Moses DVD chapter by chapter.
We took turns looking up all the verses you referenced in the study guide. My goodness, we positively felt Protestant! The participants were blown away by the dvd. They can hardly wait to see
David/Solomon next.
We were together three hours. We had a blast!

At the St. Anthony’s School end-of-the-year faculty luncheon, our 7th grade religion teacher was telling me about this great series of videos that she shows her students.  “There is this guy who goes all over the world...”  I interrupted, “Steve Ray.”  “I do all the music for his videos,” I boasted.  Well, she loves the series and so do our 7th graders... Another success story!

"I'd like to tell you that the tape series is absolutely wonderful!   I have gone through our parish study of Peter, Mary, Moses, and Jesus and have found them to be excellent, especially with the questions.

They have truly helped me in better seeing how the Old Testament and the New relate to one another and have helped me to get a much better grasp on what the Church teaches and why.
Thank you for all that each of you contributes to making this project a success. You have been changing lives through your work. Thanks and God you both.

As parents of 5 young children, we highly recommend Steve Ray's Footprints of God DVD series as an excellent learning tool of our rich Catholic faith. To follow Steve in the steps of our Lord, His Mother, the prophets, and apostles with his excellent commentary is to truly experience, not just learn or understand, the faith. Steve's imagery and analogies bring the Catholic Faith to life!

Just wanted to write to tell you how outstanding your "Footprint of God" series is.  My husband, son and I watched them this weekend (borrowed from a friend) and now plan to purchase the whole series plus 15 additional as Christmas gifts.  Your enthusiam and the way you articulate our Catholic Faith is truly inspiring.  Thank you, God bless and keep up the good....make that great work!

I don’t know if you remember me, but I met you one day in the living room of [Scott Hahn's] St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology in Steubenville when you were in town. In any case, you’re a gem for the Church. Hi Steve: Hope your Good Friday is going well.
The little kids were wondering about a good thing to do today, and know what they decided on? “Let’s watch the Steve Ray video about Jesus. They're up there now, totally engrossed.

My name is Chris Padgett, and for the last decade I have ministered in countless parishes, Dioceses, high schools and middle schools.  Through the medium of music (Scarecrow and Tinmen and my solo projects) and word (keynotes and missions) it has been my desire to convey the love of Christ to as many people as possible, in the most effective way.
The video/DVD series, "Footprints of God" in my opinion can be utilized in almost any area of ministry.  They are appropriate for parish missions, R.C.I.A. parish gatherings, Bible study programs, religion classes, and they provide a much needed service for complimenting family devotions.
My wife and I have seven children, and if there is one thing I have realized it is that kids love movies.  What better gift to give than programming which supports family values, and really enables kids to grow in their faith, with the real settings of salvation-history displayed before them with such excellence.  I really can't think of any reason these DVDs couldn't be applicable for any situation.  My personal favorite is Mary, Mother of God.  Seeing actual locations where the Blessed Mother was has provided a clearer picture for praying the Rosary.  I hope you take the time to check out these amazing
gifts!

Dear Stephen:
I thought your program Mary, the Mother of God on EWTN was just great! This was teh first time I ever saw your clear analysis, presentation adn discussion about our faith. You have warmth and a great talent to communicate on a level that makes it easier to understand the basics of our faith.
With much encouragement ans assistance from several clergymen I rewrote the original The Rosary is Alive Picture Book. Had I seen you sooner, I'm sure that many of your thoughts would have influenced some of the themes that I put in the picture book.
(Steve's note: I highly recommend Dr. Baratta's book and have provided a link to find it.)

I just wanted to quickly tell you how much I enjoy the Footprints of God videos/dvd's.  I am a graduate of the St. Ignatius Institute (Class of 1997) at the University of San Francisco and currently teach freshman and Sophomore Theology at St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Arizona.  I have shown three of your videos (Jesus, Mary, & Paul) to my students and have created study guides for them to follow along with videos.  I am going to show your videos on Abraham and Moses to my freshman classes in the spring semester since we will study the Old Testament.

Thank for such wonderful and beautiful created videos about salvation history.  If you are ever in Phoenix, I would love to meet you and discuss theology.

Anticipating the coming of Christ,

The Paul DVD is truly magnificent. The content is divine, and it is presented so well.

I like the pace, especially the segues from scene to scene; it is seamless.  The segmented, time-lapse “walking down the path” sequence is art: absolute art!
I DO like the the mixture of music from your musical “treasure box.”  The different mediums of music (all within the FOG format) really add nice dimension and variety to the scenes.  You placed and timed the music very well.

My favorite “Steve Ray-moments” are when you are relaxed, holding a “prop”  and talking calmly to the “audience;”  This is where Rabbi Steve really comes across to me. Its a gift, and you’ve got it!

“We live in Egypt, and love your Footprints of God videos.  My wife and I use them in the CCD classes we teach for Holy Family Parish in Ma'adi (a suburb of Cairo - and one of the Holy Family's resting places during their sojourn.)  We get a lot of "hey, I've been there!" comments from the children.  You did a masterful job of explaining the truths of the Faith at a level understandable and enjoyable to a wide variety of ages.  Looking forward to purchasing the rest of the series as they come out on DVD.”

"I would like to eventually have the entire series in DVD as they become available.  I ordered two DVD's today and over the next few months I would like to order one a month until I am caught up with the published series. I viewed "Mary Mother of God" recently on EWTN and I was very impressed with the presentation.  I teach CCD and I want to present your informative and entertaining series into my classroom of 8 grade girls as part of our study on Mary (the mother of God) that we will be beginning soon. We are currently studying the sacraments so I am anxious to see your presentation of Moses.

“I am anxiously awaiting  "Elijah and Elisha's" release next year. The scenes around or the ascent of Mount Carmel will be for me, without a doubt, inspirational. I have spoken with our Religous Education Chair who is currently looking into parish funding for the entire series also.  Thank you for this video ministry it has touched my heart.“

Thank you so much for the prompt shipping.  I was thrilled to receive the  Mary video..have been wanting it for some time. I'll be looking to get Peter next.  God BLESS you for all you've done!  Is it so wild to see yourself being used by God in such an incredible way??

I plan to use the video in our apologetics group @ St. Joe's (on the Peninsula in Traverse City).  Can't wait for my kids to see it, too.  It's one thing for me to tell them this stuff, another altogether for them to SEE it and hear if from someone else.  Love it!  Love it!!  My 7 year old asked if she could watch it while I was out @ another daughter's basketball game.  I told her that of course, she could, but I'd be a little bit jealous that she got to see it 1st, without me!  She didn't end up having time...

Thank you again.  I've got Upon This Rock and Crossing the Tiber...loved them both...loooking possibly to get the Papacy book - thought it'd be a good, concise one for my apologetics group.

Have a great week, Steve.  Keep all this good stuff coming...we're eating it up!!

“The Footprints of God" is a hit!  But then, I guess you knew that already.

“On Pentecost, you might recall, I mentioned that I was thinking of introducing a Christian lawyers fellowship group (mostly Protestants) I have been part of for years to your video series.  Last month, as we finished reading one book together, I suggested we view the Moses video, one chapter per week, as a break before starting the next book.  Uncertain about any veiled Catholic apologetics agenda, but trusting me, they assented.  We finished with Moses last Friday.  Everyone really enjoyed it -- so much so that they asked me to bring the Jesus video this morning.

“They love your earthiness and enthusiasm for the Lord, and the on-site cinematography and music and artwork.  Really, the whole presentation is polished and professional, yet inviting and comfortable.   And the occasional references to Catholic Church teachings and practices have been well received.  So far, we have not used the study guide questions, being content rather to simply respond in discussion to the proddings of the Spirit.  It's been a very pleasant change of pace for us.

“Anyway, great work, Steve!  It's a blessing and a pleasure for me to be able to share such beauty and truth and goodness.  Thanks!  The good Lord continue to bless you and yours.  And keep them videos comin'!  I'm going to recommend they be considered for use in our youth group program at St. James Church, too.“

Steve Ray's Footprints of God series is one of the proofs that a well-educated and creative laity is going to be playing an absolutely vital role in the New Evangelization for which Pope John Paul II has called.  Steve makes learning our Faith a blast.  My kids love the series as much as I do!  I think my youngest son wants to be Steve when he grows up."

I cannot imagine a more valuable resource for families than Steve Ray’s series of videos, The Footprints of God.  The rich on-location visuals, the active pace of the narrative, the background of exotic adventure, and the frequent touches of humor make them engrossing even for children, yet their exploration of theology, history and Scripture – always presented in an informal, chatty and entertaining way -- frequently reaches depths which richly reward the adult viewer, even one with extensive theological training.  The Old Testament videos bring the Hebrew Scriptures to life, vividly illustrating the significance of the Old Testament events and characters in the unfolding of Christian salvation history prior to the Incarnation, while the New Testament videos bring the viewer into intimate contact with the lives, settings, and meaning of the key figures and events of post-Incarnation salvation history. Throughout, the intimate link between the Old Testament and the New, between Judaism (i.e. pre-Messianic Christianity) and Catholicism (i.e. post-Messianic Judaism) come alive in a way never before seen on the screen.“

Praise God!  I just received your package and we watched Mary last night.  Right now I'm listening to your tape and it's so wonderful!  My children love your Mary tape and I have no words to describe it any better.  I sure am sharing these with my community and also in the school of my children. Thank you again.

I have started reading Upon This Rock by Steve Ray. Also, I have seen the DVD of Mary the Mother of God and I was so surprised to see Steve Ray himself narrating with such great love of Mama Mary and obviously on fire for the love of the Church. It's amazing to see him, speaking in a manner of a Protestant evangelist yet Catholic Theology at its best flowing from his mouth.

Thank you for giving myself and countless other Catholics and Protestants the opportunity to discover or rediscover the Catholic Church in a way that so many of us haven't before. I can tell by watching the behind the scenes features on the DVDs that they are not at all easy to make, but I'll tell you that they are definitely worth it. They have helped me grow in my faith.

Thanks Steve and Janet for the unexpected visit with you at Skyline Productions. You have given to the Faith the enthusiasm of one who has discovered what Jesus came to bring. In The Footprints of God I find the excitement of first discovery, the amazement and wonder of what God has done for us in the Old and New Testament. It feeds the souls of those born in Faith by the enrichment of places and pictures, all presented with the eyes of new faith. The choices of images fill the common bill because they address the human side, not just the classical, intellectual side of us. I see these films being used at every level; that is, for the multitude. Thanks for following what the Lord wants to accomplish through your lives.

Last weekend I led a retreat for my college students and our focus was on Peter and Mary. I used both your videos, which were very popular with the students. Perhaps the best way I can explain this is by telling you that we had a discussion afterwards that lasted well over an hour! So, thank you for these wonderful videos, which have been a blessing to me and I know to those students who have viewed them.

My favorite video is Peter, Keeper of the Keys. My favorite part is the bloopers in Moses, Signs, Sacraments and Salvation. I thought when you laughed it was funny! When your stallion jumped up and fell on you I thought you would almost be killed, but thank God you got off it! We have two of the DVDs and watch them lots and lots of times.

Once again many thanks for your inspirational videos. I have experienced the effect the first one (Jesus) had on my Parish here in London. I will keep you posted  as we show the others over the next three weeks. I am approaching my Bishop on Monday to request an audience to promote your movies across the parishes/schools in our Diocese, I believe I will have the backing of our Parish Priest, who was so moved by your presentation that he is determined now to visit the Holy Land.

I liked the videos a lot! I liked them because I was taught about Catholic faith when I was very young. Mr. Ray is funny in them. I liked seeing the actual places where the events of the Bible took place. The videos help me to imagine it better. The parts I remember best are the places where Jesus said, “You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church,” and where Jesus was born. Something else that pops into my head is Mount Sinai, where Moses got the Ten Commandments.

The 'Footprints' series gives parents a tremendous tool to pass the fundamentals of Scripture and the Catholic Faith along to their children. Mr. Ray shows quite vividly that salvation history is a continuous stream that flows from the Garden of Eden right through the Cathedral of St. John Lateran where the chair of St. Peter is located. I can think of no better way to inoculate your children against the claims of misguided, 'bible-alone' cults and sects than to expose them to these wonderful, lively, Spirit-driven presentations.
